The "ring of fire" is a term often used to describe the intense burning sensation many people experience as the baby’s head crowns during childbirth. It’s a natural part of the process, signaling that the baby is just moments away from being born.
As the baby’s head stretches the perineum (the area between the vagina and anus), the body is working hard to gently expand, allowing the baby to pass through the birth canal. The sensation can be overwhelming, but it’s also a sign of progress—the body’s way of preparing for the final push.
While it can feel intense, the ring of fire is often followed by the sweet relief of the baby’s birth. It’s a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of the birthing body, and the miracle of new life.
